40 of the Best Street Photos of 2016 by Photographers Around the World

I had the latest Apple laptop, C-stands, tripods; I had it all, and at the time it was good. So why did I decide to get rid of everything after only a few years? Almost one year ago, my Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) started flaring up. I started getting interested in medium format photography, and the Pentax 645Z caught my attention. Artist Depicts Black Female Nudes as Ancient Egyptian Goddesses | The Creators Project

Antwaun Sargent — Mar 29 2016 This article contains adult content.  Joshua Sessoms, Bastet, 2015, Pastel, Colored Pencil and Charcoal, 14x17. All images courtesy of the artist. Sessoms has turned to history to create images that present what he sees as addressing the deficiency of diverse images in a Eurocentric visual culture. Sessoms’s collection of drawings, Ritual Spirit, presents contemporary representations of black women laced with religious iconography dating back to the Second Dynasty. “I’ve always been interested in ancient history because it speaks to where we are as a people and culture,” explains Sessoms to The Creators Project. He says, “What I wanted to do is try to keep the [ancient] culture alive by relating it to current times.” Sessoms sees his...

Follow The Life Of Plastic In Photos, From The Factory To The Ocean
Standing on a beach in Okinawa, Japan, photographer James Whitlow Delano noticed a pile of plastic bottles at the shore—one of which had drifted 1,860 miles from Vietnam. The bottle was emblematic of the problems that developing countries have dealing with plastic waste: If the U.S. has an abysmally low recycling rate, in other countries, plastic trash often doesn't even make it to a landfill. Five countries—including Vietnam—are responsible for the majority of plastic trash that ends up in the ocean. In a new photo series, Delano contrasts plastic waste piled along streets and in canals with pristine plastic-wrapped goods in Japanese stores—what he calls the dream of plastic products versus the nightmare. "I chose to photograph the 'Dream of Plastics' in the developed, postmodern world because there is a tremendous mental disconnect between consumers in the developed world and the residents of developing countries, especially how plastic affects the...
